For example, thepinkc.net and www.thepinkc.net may have different Google PageRanks, Alexa Ratings, etc. So, by forcing www, you are ensuring that your site is only indexed one way, eliminating the chance you will have 2 different ratings for the same site. It automatically changes the URL, so you don't have to worry about visitors who just type in thepinkc.net. It will automatically redirect to www.thepinkc.net Good question! :)
