Twitter is a great social networking tool for sharing with friends old and new. But with any social media phenomenon, there is a culture attached to it that can be borderline excessive.
Many people have started using auto-follow software to automatically follow any Twitter user who follows them, whether it is a real person or a bot. Other tactics include setting up alerts via various Twitter API-based clients for keywords and automatically following people who mention certain keywords in their tweets. These users are more concerned with follower counts than the quality of the people they follow.
Twitter recently deleted a lot of (spam) accounts, but that doesn’t mean that new spammers aren’t showing up every day to clog the twit-stream with porn, ‘get followers fast’ schemes and get rich quick schemes.
Follow Twitter’s lead and combat spam on your own.
1. Use TweetDeck to auto-report spam followers.

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died at age 50 today. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember – from his Jackson 5 days to present. Despite the controversy and no recent records in the last few years, Michael still invoked strong emotions in people from all around the world. His songs spoke to many of us through puberty, young adulthood and into our middle age. Some of us literally grew up with Michael – while others of us caught the last 30 years of his career and life – and still value him as not just the “King of Pop” but a storyteller for the ages.
My favorite Michael Jackson songs are: PYT (Pretty Young Thing), You Rock My World, Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough and Heaven Can Wait. What are yours? Any great memories of the King of Pop?
I’ve had my MacBook for a week now, and I have been busy tweaking and installing programs to give me the same functionality of my PC on the Mac. This is a monumental task, as so many people have created great Mac software – and all software is not created equally.

I started using ShortKeys on Windows for text replacement, but it does not have a Mac equivalent. So, I downloaded TextExpander and it is working great so far. It does exactly what is says and there are downloadable TextExpander snippet files available for download, too. OpenOffice is my current replacement for Microsoft Office 2007, until I get my copy of MS Office in the mail. It is a good, solid program and I have used the program before on my Vista computer.

Twitter seems to be taking the world by storm – whether if it is because Bo the First Dog is using it or a Brooklyn teenager is making an internet worm that exploits Twitter’s weaknesses. My favorite feature about Twitter really doesn’t have to do with Twitter.com, but instead the many, many programs that you can use Twitter with – from ways to send links to your blog posts to your Twitter account, post to your Twitter account, or use a totally different interface with fresh and cool features to use your account.
