You don’t have to follow everyone on Twitter!

TwitterTwitter is a great social networking tool for sharing with friends old and new. But with any social media phenomenon, there is a culture attached to it that can be borderline excessive.

Many people have started using auto-follow software to automatically follow any Twitter user who follows them, whether it is a real person or a bot. Other tactics include setting up alerts via various Twitter API-based clients for keywords and automatically following people who mention certain keywords in their tweets. These users are more concerned with follower counts than the quality of the people they follow.

Small Space Hacks – Make A Small Space Work for Sleep, Work, and Play

This year I’ve lived in a house but for the most part been confined to my 2 private spaces (both approximately 8×10) for everything after living on my own in nice size apartments for two years. Of the last 11 years, I lived in dorms for 8. Next year, I’m getting a roommate in a smaller space so I’m back to being in one room again. So I’ve had my share of small spaces. But how can you take a small space and make it livable without making it unbearably overcrowded and claustrophobic? Very good question. While I am not as drastic as this guy, I think there are definitely some great solutions.

In my last post, I wrote about the death of Michael Jackson, and noted some of my favorite songs.

I live in Harlem and have been avoiding going down to the Apollo since Thursday – but I trekked down this afternoon to see what was going on.

Michael Jackson dies at age 50

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died at age 50 today. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember – from his Jackson 5 days to present. Despite the controversy and no recent records in the last few years, Michael still invoked strong emotions in people from all around the world. His songs spoke to many of us through puberty, young adulthood and into our middle age. Some of us literally grew up with Michael – while others of us caught the last 30 years of his career and life – and still value him as not just the “King of Pop” but a storyteller for the ages. MJstar My favorite Michael Jackson songs are: PYT (Pretty Young Thing), You Rock My World, Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough and Heaven Can Wait. What are yours? Any great memories of the King of Pop?

Pile of GadgetsIt is easy to get bogged down with gadgets in our digital world. Most of us have a cell phone, an iPod or MP3 player, a digital camera and a laptop which we carry with us on a regular basis.

As evidenced by my “go bag” and HarriMac‘s, there’s plenty of analog stuff we geeks carry with ourselves on a daily basis, too!

But, today, I want to help you get control of your digital world. It won’t hurt, I promise, and you’ll be feeling a lot better physically and mentally once you get rid of some things by combining them, upgrading or downgrading!

I am in the middle of moving to a new apartment. I used Craigslist to find my new home, but I wanted to know what other apartments were near my desired address.

PadMapper came so handy in my apartment search. I put in the address of a subway station I thought was desirable, and let PadMapper generate a map with all of the listings available on Craigslist!

Now, I can click on the red markers and look at information about specific listings and link back to the original ad on Cragislist.
