A couple months ago, Ellie suddenly and unexpectedly passed away (Sept 12). Her death was surprising to us and to those of you in the blogosphere and for a while the other siblings and I haven’t been sure what to do with this blog. We know there are many of you that are regular readers and sharers of the blog and because she loved sharing so much with you, we feel that the blog shouldn’t just stop. So there will be new posts keeping with the theme and feel of the blog. I will continue writing tech and how to posts and will soon be joined by at least two of my other siblings that are Android fans. We can’t fill her shoes, but we can try to honor her in this small way. If you’d like to honor her in a bigger way, please visit the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association page that we’ve set up and contribute financially there, or volunteer your time, talent, or treasure in your own community to causes that were significant to her including homeless shelters, food pantries, rape crisis centers, domestic abuse shelters, and car-free advocacy. Ellie was also an advocate for organ donation and even after she passed was able to give at least six other people the gift of life and sight. If you’d like to learn more about organ donation, please visit http://organdonor.gov and make sure your family knows your wishes. It may be a small gift to you, but a giant gift to others.

1. You woke up. No matter how bad things are, you woke up this morning! This is a great accomplishment. So many people – young, old, infirm, healthy – did not wake up this morning. Families around the world wish their loved ones were with them for one more day. So enjoy these precious moments.

2. You have a good life. Most people in the world survive on less than a $1 a day. There are entire villages that still live by candlelight. Millions don’t have the ability to read this post. Maybe they don’t have electricity, internet, or even able to read. One in five Americans goes to bed hungry every night. Kind of puts it in perspective, right?

3. You’re awesome. Think about it. You were born. You’re still here. And you’re smart enough to be reading this blog. That’s awesome.

4. You’re curious about the world. Even if it is using Facebook or Twitter, you’re curious about the world, and the people in it. So take advantage of it. Reply to people who have something positive to say. Making them will make you feel good, and they’ll feel good, too.

5. Remember this is just temporary. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and feel like nothing will ever go right again, but it’s just temporary! Things can change on the drop of a dime. Look forward, not backward, and keep seeking out the good that’s seeking out you!

Yeah, I’m writing you. I want to talk to you and find out if you really meant for us to be doing all of the things we are doing, if you ever intended on leaving Judaism and forming your own religion and more. What was life like back then? Do you know that we count time based on your death? Were you married? Did you look like me?

I really want to know the real Jesus – the person behind the stories, religion and myth. The man who has changed the world for better or worse.

Dear A,

We don’t talk as much as we should. I remember a few years ago when we would stay up half the night talking, laughing, debating and just enjoying each others’ company. Then, life changed for both of us, and we don’t talk as much anymore. Now things have changed again, so maybe we’ll rekindle our friendship and pick things up where we left off!

I miss your constant questioning of “Why” and “How” and the sound of your laugh.

I would love to meet you because you have shown great resilience and a calm demeanor unseen in ages. I want to emulate your behavior the more I see you and hear about the things that you’re doing to improve America. I don’t always agree with your methods or the things you’re doing, but I admire you for sticking with your promises to yourself and country.

I’d love to talk with you about what it was like as a Senator versus President, how your family is faring in Washington and what goals you’d like to complete through the rest of your term.

Every morning I eagerly anticipate opening you and seeing what great information has been posted all over the internet while I’ve slept. I hope your life is going well. I never realized when you broke things off that it was for the best. I’ve gone on to do things I never imagined I’d do and live in the greatest city on Earth. Thank you for letting me go. I miss you sometimes, but it was the best decision you could have made.

You do realize it is summer, right? Even during the heatwaves, I see you every day riding the M101 with your floor length red wool coat, hat, sunglasses and a dainty, yet worn patent leather pocketbook. You never speak. Nary a sound. You get on quietly and ride a few blocks to Morningside and sit on the bench feeding the pigeons.

I’ve seen you so many times over the last year, and I always see you just like that – silent, almost brooding and in your red coat. I always wonder what is beneath the coat – what is behind the sunglasses and wide brimmed hat. Are you widowed? Do you have family? And more insane, do you use an unlimited MetroCard?

I’ve never seen you at the subway station, so I figure you must live around here. Do you enjoy the city, or do you dream of living elsewhere. I’m curious about you, and maybe I’ll get the courage to talk to you one day.
