I’ve installed WordPress plugins to assist in Search Engine Optimization, such as:
- Enforce
www.Preference v1.3 by Mark Jaquith — Provides 301 redirects to queries with /index.php and enforces your use or non-use of www. - Google Sitemaps v2.7.1 by Arne Brachhold — This generator will create a Google compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog.
- SEO Title Tag v2.0beta8 by Stephan Spencer, Netconcepts — Search engine optimize your blog’s title tags. Create a customized title tag for any post, static page, category page, UltimateTagWarrior tag page – indeed, any URL! And will auto-insert the tag name into the title on tag pages generated by UltimateTagWarrior plugin. Admin allows for mass editing of title tags.
- SRG Clean Archives v4.1 by Geek With Laptop — This plugin is designed to display your archive listings in a clean, uniform, single-query fashion that’s Search Engine friendly on a dedicated page or in your sidebar.
I’ve also utilized online tools to help me generate meta tags and descriptions for my site. My next goals are to drill down into a particular niche and begin networking with others in the field to get more linkbacks and feedback.

A side note about the sitemap plugin, the 3.0b8 beta version is rock solid, so you should update to that version as it has a lot of fixes and improvements. I run it on my site.
I didn’t know about Mark’s plugin to force www or not. I’ve been handling it with .htaccess rules for a long time now.
