Dear Barack Obama,

I would love to meet you because you have shown great resilience and a calm demeanor unseen in ages. I want to emulate your behavior the more I see you and hear about the things that you’re doing to improve America. I don’t always agree with your methods or the things you’re doing, but I admire you for sticking with your promises to yourself and country.

I’d love to talk with you about what it was like as a Senator versus President, how your family is faring in Washington and what goals you’d like to complete through the rest of your term.

Dear Google Reader,

Every morning I eagerly anticipate opening you and seeing what great information has been posted all over the internet while I’ve slept. With dozens of feeds and hundreds of posts daily, I can quickly get to the information I want, need and find interesting. You save me so much time and make it easier for me to keep abreast of my favorite topics – technology and urban planning. If you were a person, you’d be like Encyclopedia Brown!

Keep up the good work and I’ll see you later!

Dear XXX,

I hope your life is going well. I never realized when you broke things off that it was for the best. I’ve gone on to do things I never imagined I’d do and live in the greatest city on Earth. Thank you for letting me go. I miss you sometimes, but it was the best decision you could have made.

Dear Lady in the Red Coat -

You do realize it is summer, right? Even during the heatwaves, I see you every day riding the M101 with your floor length red wool coat, hat, sunglasses and a dainty, yet worn patent leather pocketbook. You never speak. Nary a sound. You get on quietly and ride a few blocks to Morningside and sit on the bench feeding the pigeons.

I’ve seen you so many times over the last year, and I always see you just like that – silent, almost brooding and in your red coat. I always wonder what is beneath the coat – what is behind the sunglasses and wide brimmed hat. Are you widowed? Do you have family? And more insane, do you use an unlimited MetroCard?

I’m a little behind on letter writing, but I’m catching up quickly!

Dear future career -

You and I seem to be at odds. I want a job in my field, you seem to be as elusive as a ghost. We must come to some sort of understanding because frankly, I can’t keep doing what I’m doing and be happy. All I want is a job in my field that is fulfilling and helps me make a change in the world. Simple, right? So, let’s do this. I’m ready. I have the education, credentials and the willpower. Just waiting on you!

I’m participating in a 30 days of letters project. Read more about it here.

Dear siblings,

It has been awesome knowing each of you. You are great friends and companions. I really enjoy spending time with you at holidays. Growing up, it was tough, but we all are successful adults. I know you guys will always be in my corner and support me through my career.

Love,

Ellie

Dear Mama,

I love you more than words can express. You have always been in my corner, even when I was a wild child. I know I can always depend on you for sound advice, a good joke or some great homecooked food! I wish we lived closer, so we could go out for Waffle House a few times a week and laugh and have fun. It’ll happen. Just wait!

Love,

Ellie

Dear HTC Evo,

Ever since you popped up on my computer screen a few weeks ago, I spend a good deal of time drooling, looking at accessories for you and wishing you’d come into my life. I’d love nothing more than to caress your stylish exterior and use you like I do my current phone, the Samsung Moment. There’s something about your front facing camera and 4g service that just makes me shiver in anticipation of my upgrade in December. I hope we have a long and fruitful relationship – if you can wait that long!
Best,

Ellie

30 Days of Letters – Letter to your best friend

I decided to participate in the 30 Days of Letters project. Here’s my first installment:

Dear J,

We’ve been friends for many, many years and despite the distance and the fact that our lives are no longer the same, I still consider you my best friend. I always know that I can be as nerdy as I want around you and you don’t mind at all. We have laughed about tons of things that have happened in our lives. We’ve also worked through some monumental problems. I know that I can always depend on you to be there when I need someone to listen – and vice versa. You’ve made a huge change in your life recently, and I wish you all the best in the future. Our friendship might change some, but know that you are always going to be my friend.
I love you,
