How To Buy Retro - Computers with Win XP

15 February, 2008 (13:05) | Soulville, Technology | By: HarriMac

SoulvilleIf you’re like me, you don’t understand what Microsoft was thinking when they released a severely bugged operating system. Cool kids? Not. More like the slow kid. Vista is an “interesting” computer experience, but not recommended by me. Microsoft’s solution? Not only not try to fix it and re-release (creating a whole new one instead) but also announce that all new computers sold with Microsoft in the US as of a few weeks from now will only carry Vista. Why? But I digress…today I’m going to show you a few places to go when looking for new (or refurb) XP machines and what to do if you’re forced into a Vista machine.

It took a lot longer than I anticipated, but thepinkc - the ultimate Geek Girl - is back!

We switched hosts in the last week to BlueHost. The move was pretty easy, although I did loose a few settings for plugins and a couple of logos

While the site is back up - and with a new look, expect to see a few changes over the next few weeks - new logos, color theme, etc. If you see any bugs, please send me an email.

Manage incoming shipments with Track My Shipments!

11 February, 2008 (23:08) | Geek Girl | By: Ellie

Geek GirlDo you always have a hard time keeping track of all of your shipments? Just a few weeks ago, I had 4 packages coming via UPS, one via FedEx and two by DHL. Can you imagine how difficult it was to keep track of 7 different packages at one time - and how time consuming? You have to keep each confirmation email from the shipper with the tracking number, copy and paste that tracking number into each shipper’s website, and then you can see where your packages are and when they’ll arrive.

How to Upgrade your WordPress Installation

11 February, 2008 (23:07) | WordPress | By: Ellie

WordPress WednesdaysAn important WordPress update was released this week, version 2.3.3. Please update your WordPress installation to ensure that you will have the latest protections. From the WordPress Blog:

WordPress 2.3.3 is an urgent security release. If you have registration enabled a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. In addition to fixing this security flaw, 2.3.3 fixes a few minor bugs. If you are interested only in the security fix, download the fixed version of xmlrpc.php and copy it over your existing xmlrpc.php. Otherwise, you can get the entire release here.

Delete your Yahoo! account easily

Geek GirlYahoo! Mail is still very popular, especially if you have had your Yahoo! account since “forever’ like me. However, Gmail has gained A LOT of ground in recent years. The interface is “cleaner” than Yahoo!’s and the search function is fantastic!

One thing’s for sure - you can delete your Yahoo! account by not logging into your account for a period up to 7 months or you can delete your Yahoo! account by visiting https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user.

The benefits of using the direct link are no-brainers - it’s easy, fast and you KNOW that your account cannot be accessed.
